My Story

Hello and welcome to my page! I am a classically trained homeopath living in Glastonbury, Somerset.

Glastonbury Tor

I like being creative and as a Cancerian this tends to be centred on home-making; I love coming up with a ‘new look’ for a room or styling small spaces like my VW campervan or garden cabin. For several years I managed a Bed & Breakfast business in Glastonbury and was able to combine my love of creating nurturing spaces with another passion: meeting people from all around the world and getting to hear their stories.

I have always been interested in herbalism and holistic form of medicine and this really came into focus when I was a teenager and began to suffer with severe acne.  I tried most of the common allopathic treatments but none of them stopped the acne and I started to get unpleasant side-effects as well.  I read a book when I was at school called ‘Homeopathy for Everyone’ by Sheila and Robin Gibson.  The philosophy of homeopathy and the idea that the mind and body are intricately connected really resonated with me and I knew I wanted to train as a homeopath after I read it.

In my twenties I explored various other therapies such as yoga, reiki, meditation, shiatsu, acupuncture, herbalism and massage while I was studying for an MA in Celtic studies at the University of Edinburgh.  I then trained in Aromatherapy, Crystal Healing Bach Flower Therapy and Hypnotherapy.  During this time I was still suffering with acne (albeit a little less severe) and this continued until I was in my thirties when I rediscovered homeopathy and experienced the power of the deep acting miasmatic remedies to clear chronic health challenges.

My mission

CI strongly feel that mind and body are intimately connected and from the age of 22 years I was fully committed to learning about holistic healing methods.  My first qualification in holistic health was Aromatherapy Massage which I completed in 2001 closely followed by Crystal and Colour healing and Bach flower and gem essence therapy.

I am really fascinated by the power of the subconscious mind and its role in health and healing and so my next qualification was in hypnotherapy.  Finally my quest to find a gentle, natural healing modality for mind, body and soul led me back to homeopathy and I completed my training in 2012.

I have worked as a therapist at Neal’s Yard in Bristol, various festivals including the famous Glastonbury Festival, a homeopathy clinic in Northern India and even a yoga retreat in Turkey.

I love that homeopathy empowered me to take back control of my health and my family’s health and I hope I can share this knowledge with you and inspire and encourage others to do the same.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is now the most popular alternative to conventional drugs worldwide.  In the UK homeopathy is often considered to be an alternative to mainstream medicine, chosen by a growing number of people who are concerned with the side-effects of prescribed drugs.

One reason why homeopathy has become so popular is that patients and health practitioners have repeatedly found that not only can it relieve symptoms. but it can also address the underlying cause of disease, improving the whole health of the person.

Homeopaths frequently find that a major part of their work is in cases that have NOT been helped by conventional medicine.  Homeopathy differs from conventional medicine in that it is aimed at stimulating the body’s own natural healing ability instead of suppressing symptoms.

Homeopathy is essentially about increasing a person’s energy and sense of well-being.  This in turn increases their confidence and will to deal with any stress that may be part of his or her life and gives them the strength to make necessary changes.

Homeopathy also has the potential to move people forward in their spiritual lives.  As a patient evolves, they are able to find their right path in life.  As this happens they begin to experience and get in touch with their inner self and feel a greater sense of peace.

Flower Essences

‘Health is our heritage, our right.  It is the complete and full union between soul, mind and body.’ Dr Edward Bach 1930

Dr Bach, founder of Flower  Essence Therapy, realised it is only when we are emotionally or mentally out of balance that we become susceptible to disease. He taught that true happiness and well-being comes from the alignment with the soul.  Dr Bach wrote: ‘so long as our souls and personalities are in harmony all is joy and peace, happiness and health.  it is only when our personalities are led astray from the path laid down by the soul…that a conflict arises.  This conflict is the root cause of disease and unhappiness’.

Like homeopathic remedies, the essences do not actually contain any part of the flower or gem they are made from.   Essences are made by transferring the energetic imprint of a plant or gem into pure spring water which ‘records’ or ‘remembers’ it.

There are now many ranges of flower essences apart from the original set of 38 created by Dr Bach – these include other races from around the world such as the Californian Flower Essence Society, The Living Tree Orchid Essences and The Australian Bush Flower essences.  Flower essences work well alongside homeopathy. They are very gentle and self-adjusting.

Homeobotanicals

Homeobotanical remedies combine the potency of Homeopathy with the dependability & stability of Herbal Medicine.

Detoxification is often the first step in the therapeutic process (esp. for chronic conditions). When the toxins have been removed a nutritional blend of herbs is again individually selected to encourage the body to regain homoeostasis (balance)

Acute conditions respond very quickly to these remedies, supporting the immune system and accelerating the healing process. Chronic conditions respond at a more measured pace, according to the duration and severity of the disease or imbalance.

Frequently asked questions

How does homeopathy work?

The idea behind homeopathy is that ‘like cures like’: something that promotes the symtoms of a disease can also cure that disease when it has been ‘potentised’ through the processes of successive dilution and ‘sucussion’

How do remedies work if there is nothing in them?

When opponents say there there is nothing in homeopathic remedies they are right, there is no molecule from the original substance.  However the preparation of a homeopathic remedy changes the structure of the water and thus creates a different substance. Structure is what creates the difference in the properties of a substance as we can see with the example of diamond and coal which are both made up of carbon molecules.

Some years ago Mesaru Emoto demonstrated the effect of ideas, words and music on water.  He took more than 10,000 images of different water sample and having studied them came to realise that ‘water not only stores information, but also feelings and consciousness, reacting to any message.’

Why should I buy a remedy kit to use at home?

It is a good idea to have a kit with basic remedies so you can learn to deal with accidents and acute illness such as headaches and fevers or infections  without having to resort to antibiotics, painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs.

Why do you ask about my family medical history?

Homeopathy has the potential to overcome hereditary disease.  The illness in our family line can often weaken various aspects of our own health.

Any major illness that a parent or a grandparent has experienced will have an affect on ther descendants to a greater or lesser degree.  This is particularly true of diseases that have been suppressed by modern drugs.

Homeopath’s are trained to recognise symptoms that have been inherited from earlier generations.  These symptoms are like the ‘default’ settings on your computer.  Even when free from illness the same tendencies can be there niggling away in the background.  Very often there seems to be no logical exlanation for why a child fails to thrive until the homeopath looks into the family background and finds a history of disease one or two generations before.

When these family tendencies are found they can be treated in any member of the family at whatever age.  So while it would be ideal to treat both parents before a child has even been conceived, it is never too late to heal the entire family and create better future health for generations.

What are flower and gem essences used for?

Essences are especially useful for clearing negative emotional states and limiting beliefs.  When you are in a negative state and the appropriate essence is taken, you may experience a flash of insight or the ability to see problems in a new and more positive perspective.  A breakthrough or healing on the mental or emotional level will also benefit us on the physical level since all parts of our being our interconnected.

What do homeopath's mean by suppression?

Suppression is anything that stops your symptoms doing what they are trying to do. Your body will simply try harder to produce symtoms or find another outlet.

A classic example is if you have exzema and try to keep it in check with steroids your body may eventually stop producing eczema n the skin and start developing asthma instead.
