Why has an old symptom from years ago returned?
In order to heal, we also need to address the LAYERS of health that have been suppressed over the years.
As a homeopathic remedy begins to work the path to healing tends to follow a pattern in 3 ways. This is known as the Hering’s ‘Law of Cure’. This principle states that during the process of disease and healing, a person’s symptoms will appear in one order and disappear in the reverse order:
The inner and most important organs heal first and the outermost ones, including the skin heal last.
The symptoms at the top of the body begin to get better before those lower down.
Symptoms get better in reverse order to how they began.
In practice this means that after taking a remedy the patient will probably begin at first to simply feel better and notice they have more energy and motivation. This is followed by healing in parts of the body most vital to life such as the heart, liver and kidneys.
As healing progresses patients may experience a brief reminder or two of symptoms they may have had in the past. These are really important signs that the remedy is addressing the deeper chronic problem that has been undermining the patient’s well-being for a long time. It means the body is now able to express those symptoms (which may have been suppressed in the past) and able to create a more appropriate response to them.
When this happens we usually see an old symptom re-emerging for a few days but without the intensity of before. Left untreated now they usually disappear without further problems.
Immunologists claim that the body has the capacity to ‘remember’ every ‘assault’ on the system that it has ever reacted to and this process confirms that capacity.
The skin is usually the last area to clear and so eczema and acne sufferers need more patience than most inn seeing the results of their inner healing.
How does suppression of disease creates more disease layers?
An example of symptoms being suppressed is a child with eczema. They might be given steroids and the eczema disappears but then they begin to suffer with asthma. The problem has moved deeper into the body. Again steroids are given in the form of inhalers and the symptoms subside. Unfortunately the original problem has not been addressed and so the body throws out more symptoms, this might be in the form of arthritis as a young adult. If these symptoms are then also suppressed the new symptoms that follow might be more serious and closer to the vital organs. Thus, when a patient comes to see a homeopath with arthritis or a heart condition, we know there is much more to heal than just that one complaint.
With the right sequence of remedies we will first address the symptoms now presenting and then we will go deeper and further back in the health picture to address the original symptoms that might have been suppressed years before.
