Sometimes people worry about ‘aggravations’ from homeopathic remedies so here is some information on what an aggravation is, what might be happening and why.
First of all, homeopathy is a safe, natural system of medicine which is able to improve our vitality without the negative side effects that often occur with mainstream medicine.
The reason for it’s safety is because it is a totally different type of medicine which works by stimulating your own body to respond in a different way.
The remedies are made from extremely diluted substances which are then potentised. This means that remedy used is so dilute that it only holds an energy memory of the original substance. The energy of the remedy will be used to stimulate the body to make a change to the way it is currently reacting.
When we select the correct remedy, we expect it to stimulate the body to make a change.
When the body makes that change you must watch and wait to see if the body can complete the healing or if a new remedy will be needed to continue the work.
It can be a mistake to rush in and counteract the healing process with different remedies addressing the new changed symptoms.
Remember you are teaching the body to heal itself, you are only giving it a nudge with the remedies so you must avoid confusing your body with mixed instructions.
Understanding Homeopathic Remedy Reactions
Taken from Ton Jansens’s book on Homeopathic Detox Therapy ‘Fighting Fire with Fire’ p.70
If case analysis is done thoroughly, we usually don’t see any negative reactions, only mild reactions or improvements. Usually reactions are mild and disappear within 24 hours of intake.
Reactions from remedies are usually a sign of detoxification. These include fever, increased perspiration or different types of discharges. This can be from the ears, nose, eyes, odorous sweat, lung infections with cough and mucous, diarrhoea, dark and odorous urine, etc. There may also be emotions coming up to the surface such as sadness, weeping, anger, anxieties, temporary aggravations of obsessions, rigid behaviour or the return of autistic traits.
A return of old symptoms can occur for a few days to a week. This is a positive sign showing that healing is taking place. The reactions will fade away when the disturbance has been completely erased at an energetic level.
It is very important not to suppress a fever when it occurs. Fever helps the healing process. Always remember that fever is not a disease; it is the reaction of the vital force to overcome a disease. This is something we need to understand and ‘relearn’ as most of us have unfortunately grown up with the erroneous belief that fever is to be feared and is to be suppressed the moment it appears.
When the fever persists longer than 24 hours or when the fever is high (higher than 39.9 degrees Celsius or 104 degrees Fahrenheit) it should be treated homoeopathically. Use the indicated remedy depending on the particular features of the fever e.g. Belladonna or Aconite.
If the acute remedy is a good fit it will not suppress the vital force but will help it to a higher level, allowing the body to throw off the fever more quickly. Alternatively, you may give a dilution if it was a detox homeopathic remedy that provoked the fever (see instructions on how to do this below).
What to do when a reaction occurs due to detox remedies:
Mild reactions:
When the reactions are bearable, the patient should wait 24 hours to see if the symptoms resolve. In case of further increased aggravation, the patient should contact the homeopath. If symptoms persist or worsen after 24 hours the homeopath may advise you to make a dilution (see instructions below).
Severe reactions:
Reactions that are unbearable or last longer than 24 hours. In this case the homeopath will advise you to make and take a dilution.
How to Prepare a Dilution
- Dissolve a pill/granule of the same potency that caused the aggravation in 150ml (5 fl oz) of water in a clean sterilised jar (boiled). Do not take the liquid but stir gently with a spoon.
- Take one desert spoon of the liquid 3 times throughout the day, leaving at least one hour between each dose.
- As soon as symptoms diminish stop taking the dilution. This may even occur after the first dessert spoon.
- Store the dilution in a sealed jar in the refrigerator.
- If at the end of the first day of taking the dilution no improvement has occurred, the patient should contact the homeopath and have their case retaken.
